Syncro xrissvagon
Well have come upon a very nice syncro atlantic, a few scabby areas and a hole in the back panal, mainly the result of poor previose repair in the farterland, will wait and see for the rest.
It sits very nice
there are a few dints and ripples in most panals,
usual area on back panal (n/s) has a hole so will let a piece in
will have to redo this 'ahem' repair
these two picks are the worst of the rust before any digging,
and
at least I wont have the tank and filler to remove
does seam filling ever get as crude as these 2 picks
its even running with a snotty tail....
So a few things to sort then its strip off and get to the bottom of it, wonder what will be found.

chriss, as allways very nice meeting up again , hope you had a good sleep......

That will look pretty nice when done up i'm sure. I also reckon you'll find more rust.
I'm actually starting to dream about rust.

Re: Syncro xrissvagon
I'm seriously thinking about booking mine in with you next year sometime for a decent respray, as I think the van is a definate keeper. Has a bit of a shabby respray at the moment. Guess you'll need some pics of the bodywork?

Re: Syncro xrissvagon
just remember, the rust will be lik an ice berg! theres lots more below.
what you see is te rust which comes from inside so remove the panels and check the backs of the panels, this will need sorting, making the outside pretty is only short term.

Re: Syncro xrissvagon
Well had a bit more of a dig with mixed feelings and findings,
That vertical seam that was full of sn*t well its all bathroom silicone, clear as well.lol so raked it out quickly and this is what was behind it
good int it, will only need gritblasting and then normal prepping, could be lulled into sometyhing here
now the seam is a bit ugly but all in the right place but
there is a hole in the arch too, the whole of this panal well most of it is filled, looks to have been bumped maybe off road who knows, but it has been done by someone who knows how to fill , I think a template was made up to guide the cutter/grinder, then when done the correct grey seam sealer was used , but at some later stage the bath silicone was applied over the top and the van had the bottom half painted.
bottom gone
this piece apears to have been added as the join is at the top of the swage and very nicly done, there is only a slight bump which would be hidden by the rubber arch.
as there is a seam at the rear !
I may have to remove the cover securing edge as there is rust at the rear of it theat the blaster will not touch
but easy enough to do and respot.
So its removal of the rear furniture and get to the inside of the rear wings andd arches and see just whats been going on

Re: Syncro xrissvagon
Well been busy finding whats happened and why its been done the way it has,
I will start with the slider, externally it has an artificial gloss bit like dulux only one dint and gave no appearance of damage,it has been resprayed twice and both times the same colour, inside this was luckily found
ok theres no leaks yet but not good to have it in the van, the door is in superb condition
this is not rust its waxoyl or simmilar that I scraped through
just for interest this is how the central locking is fastened to the slider, might be usefull anyone converting a van
..
ok , strippered the wing
quick grind over
I seems that its had a belt on the arch and left a while so rust set in then it was badly pulled out and a major filling job done, it has had a full repaint then a bottom 1/2 then below bottom swage then latest the bathroon sealant and what may be dulux well no it isnt but its nasty paint, more later, this repair was done after the first repaint.
I notice that on the final blow over they left the slider cover on as seen by this overspray line
more in a minute........................................
