Bottom Belt JX 1.6TD Engine

Post by DUMBODOGGY »

Hi Guys,

I hope you can help!!!

My 1.6td JX camper has over the past couple of days developed a nasty screaming in 1st/2nd gear- almost like a fanbelt slipping??

I have had a look and there seems to be plenty of 'slack' on the airpump to crank belt so i think this is the problem.

Is there a way this can be altered? if not, how easy are they to fix??

Cheers Guys! :ok

yes i have the same problem!

the two replies my research has lead me to is:

1) belt is old and stretched and should be replaced.
2) there may be some shims behind the pulley plate - that when removed will tighten the belt.

The pully plate is held on by three allen head bolts, and it is fairly tricky getting it back on with the belt.

As the belt is fairly cheap and that whilst removing the shims you have to remove the belt anyway you may as well replace it and keep the worn one as an emergency spare!

I am a novice DIYer but hope fully this is of some assistance.
i will be mayor!

Tightening is usually involves loosening the bolt on a tensioner bracket and pushing the alternator to tighten, if your going to do that and you dont know when it was last changed replace it.

bottom belt is water pump that's done with the shims, upper belt is alternator with adjustable bracket, ditto power steering belt for those that have it
