LPG Conversion for 1.9 Caravelle

Post by mearnsy »

I am thinking that if i dont sell my 83 caravelle ill have a LPG conversion done for the fuel economy.

Ive only ever spoken to people who have converted vauxhalls and alike and wondered how the conversions do on t25s?

Any idea on cost?

Would the fuel economy really be that good? My mate used to use £5 of petrol each month in his Corsa.

Also located on Isle of Wight so would be good to find somewhere reasonably local

OK as a rough guide for a fully loaded camper (2.1DJ on a Pierburg carb) which used to get 20-22 mpg on petrol we now get 18.2 mpg on lpg which with petrol twice the price of gas equates to around 36 mpg.

Because we live 10.8 miles from the nearest gas station I do run on fool's gold occasionally (as you're supposed to) and put around 30 Swiss franc's in last year and a tenner's worth this year.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone tried
55ltr zero degree tank (580mm x 200mm) specifically for the Type 25 (T3) to fit in place of the spare wheel
If so do you just carry around a can of gunk now instead?

We paid £900 ish 5 years ago(?) but with the mileage I do it was paid for in 30-odd fill-ups so 1/2 price motoring ever since. There were 2 types of tanks back then the cylinder style for under the seat/bed (in various sizes) and the 65 ltr terroidal (upright) which holds ~50 ltrs and went in our back wardrobe. We get 180 miles per 50 litre tank round here and nearer 200 on a steady motorway cruise.

Can't comment on the 'spare wheel carrier' stylee tank except to say that ANY gas is betterer than no gas.

Be aware that the only gas station on the island is expensive, about 3/4 the price of petrol, you'll have to drive for a loooooong time round that little island before you start to feel the benefit to your pocket!

I have one in mine, and yes carry a tyre weld of some sort, dont rely on the spare cradle to hold the tank in though, mount it on brackets ...

I thought they were legally obliged to sell it at no more than 1/2 the price of petrol (EU law?)
