diesel leak from top of JX injector Pump

Post by sdelasal »

I had this pump 'reconditioned' last year - which means they changed seals and checked the pump on a stand. Anyway, it's taken me a year to get the pump on an engine and today I got it started. Problem is i've got quite a large diesel leak from the top of the pump - it appears to be coming from under the large lever plate attached to the LDA.

photo here ... Image linked, too large to display

So i'm thinking it's coming from that shaft which the plate pivots on and which runs vertically down into the pump. When I grab the plate there is a fair bit up up & down movement. Is that okay? Is there a seal on that shaft? Can I simply unbolt the plate & replace the seal...or does the seal get installed from inside the pump?

Is this the seal I need?

I had the same problem not so long ago. In the end my problem, as suspected was the bush that the shaft goes through was very worn.
I had it changed by a BOSCH specialist.

Can i simply remove that right hand nut, remove the plate/lever and replace the bush/seal underneath on the shaft ..? Or do I have to take the top of the pump off and replace the seal/bush working from the inside of the pump? If I remove that top nut, is there a problem with keeping the shaft in place and not dropping down & into the pump? Steve
