hi..just wondering if anyone can ID the missing part on this pump pictured (crudely circled!)
There was the remains of some sort or rubber cradle for the pinch bolt thingy (sorry poor with terminology) there that dissolved into nothingness, anyone help out on the part number?
I've got the pump off to replace the rear seal.

Is the pump off the JX engine?

It's off a 1.6TD which I presume is the JX? I'm new to VWs as you can tell!
I have put a new rear seal in the pump and I have a scrap VE pump kicking about that I have nicked the rubber bits from so it all sorted now.
So the cold start is controlled by a cable..what controls the cable at the other end? It's been chucking it down for the last day or so, I'm a bit reluctant to investigate! I'm used to old petrol landies so please excuse any daft questions.
Re: 1.6D Injection pump part
pull lever on the dash
on a rhd its infront your left knee
there is a plastic(rubber on early vans) surround that goes on the dash to the left of the steering coloum with the handle sortof moulded in.
the cable gets tight and the lever snaps.
in this country you should never require it tho

Re: 1.6D Injection pump part
I just discovered my cable tucked up behind the dash, predictably broken. An inspection at the pump showed that I've been driving for 7 months with the cold start valve almost fully on - a couple of minutes spent wiring it into the closed position has improved starting enormously, and hopefully will show an impressive improvement in fuel economy...
As mentioned, it's not the most essential item in this country so you shouldn't worry too much about mending it.
Eddie.
