Which, of course, is why you're being asked to back up your claims for your pudding. Because, to be perfectly frank, your claims do not make the slightest bit of sense. They seem like utter wild optimism.

You are claiming to get near-nuff 15% better fuel economy from your ~25yo van than VW could manage from a new one in the official consumption tests. Please explain how and why.

Your pudding is still bullsheet. If you are getting that figure you had better let VW know how so that they can incorporate your incredible engine's characteristics in their designs! :rofl

Perhaps the amount of fuel is indeed FACT but perhaps the amount of miles you think you have done is suspect?

The reason I say this is because I recently changed my tyres and wheels to 215/65 x 16" which are quite a bit bigger than standard and my speedo now reads exactly the same as the sat-nav which suggests to me that it must have overead by quite a bit before.

So if for example you only really did 400 mls then your van would have returned around 37mpg which is a bit more feasible.

Am I missing the point of this argument, you are prepared to believe 38 mpg but not 41? I would have thought with all the claims made by modern fuel suppliers a 10% increase over the last 30 years is quite plausible?

Your completely missing the point mate, now my tyre sizes are bigger than standard the speedo reads spot on compared to sat-nav, therefore when on standard sized tyres the speedo MUST have overead.

In a nutshell you cannot rely on the speedo to give you accurate mileage covered and it only needs to be 10% out and this would explain your low mpg figures.

To be honest mate I couldn't give a t*ss what he reckons his fuel consumption is, I was only trying to put a different spin on why he may believe he uses so little when everyone else uses more.

I run on LPG so have no need to work out what mine does.

It was not aimed at you shepster just generally not understanding why 41 mpg was not generally believed? I reckon I get about 50 mpg from my 1y but I have never checked and have been know to delude myself in the past :D

Just back from 2K miles around Scotland. Did Applecross and loads of other big climbs. No idea on mpg but got behind a horse box on the M6 coming back and i noticed that my right boot was considerably lighter and the engine was not working nearly as hard, so maybe that's the answer, tailgating.

1.6td is an excellent motor. Underpowered in a T25 but still an excellent motor. Just need to upgrade to braided hoses on the brakes and I recon improving breathing might make the drive easier.
