fitted new header tank last week with new cap bled sytstem , used van all week for work today let van get up too proper temp ! temp needle just past half way fan cuts in water expands into top up tank well past max mark but when cooled down didnt draw any back from top up tank :?

have you changed the dalek cap ?

the valve can go in these....

yes that was new aswell genuine vw one

what symptoms were you having before you changed the header tank?

was losing a bit of water turned out to be small split in header tank

Possibly the cap but more likely needs bleeding again.

thanks was a new genuine cap from brickwerks will try bleeding again tomro

Has anything been resolved on this, as im interested. :)

no not really bled it again put old cap back on been work in it yesterday and today kept an eye on water level seemed ok then called for petrol on way home and bloke behind me says you got something leakig from the back of your van had a look when got home and top up tank was full to the top and coming out the overflow holes .so have bled it again put new cap back on topped it up again see what happens next ,knew i should of bought an Aircooled :( to be fair its the most trouble i,ve had in 5years

I am relying on you to sort his, :) as my niece & Boyfriend chappie, have recently bought a van, and it has started doing the same, so I have a certain amount of interest in this .................................... So please hurry up, will you. :ok :rofl

think its going to be the head gasket ! think it will av to be a new engine or just get shot :?

sounds like the gasket.
take it to a garage and get them to sniff the coolant for the prescence of combustion gas in the water.

that will answer your problem one way or the other.....
