got a '90 panelvan with a 4 speed 1900 cc, with a knackered g/box... will a '87 diesel 4 speed box or an earl 'x' plate Aircooled 4 speed unit fit straight in or is there some difference in mounts etc

The first thing to change would be the bellhousing and input shaft (you must change the input shaft as the diesel one is shorter).

From memory, the gearbox and engine sit at a different height (just a case of using your petrol gearbox mount instead of the diesel).
Also I think the gearlinkage will be different at the gearbox, so you'd prob need to change that also.

I will say that the gear ratios will be pretty naff for your van. The Non Turbo diesel gearbox has just about the lowest gearing out there for a T25...

To check, you could find the code from the gearbox and post it up here, I'll look it up and let you know. Also find your original gearbox code to compare.
