Gear linkage set up

Post by Monkey »

just helped a friend fit a recon 5 speed box and recon all the gear linkage. All ok but having a bit of trouble setting up the linkage. We can get all gears just about so cant be far off but 2/3 are a bit iffy. Tried following the manual but it seemed miles out.

Any advice appreciated

The manual is all very good but it is for a new vehicle with new linkages, not ones that have done umpteen thousand miles and are a bit frayed around the edges.
Can't help you much as I can't get my head round it, if you can't find someone who has done it and can get it sorted for you I think its a case of playing with it, shifting to the next spline and altering the length.
Good luck.

I thought that would be the case. All of the rear half of the linkage is brand new. I think Its probably just a spline out. Will keep playing tho

i always find the best way with linkages is move it only 1/2 as far as you think you oughta.....
and adjust from the front backwards, ie, start at the stick end, if you have renewed the back end the floor plate may be out by some
