can anyone offer an idiot proof explanation of the vacuum hose connections for hte cruise control unit??

well.....all the electrical connections seem to work, operate when switches are fiddled with but can't get it to set. looking at the little black box in the engine compartment i can see 2 places that the vac pipes can connect, only one of them is connected at present, is this right? if not what should they be connected to?
thing is, i didn't realise that i had cc until Mr Steve Gasure pointed it out whilst doin the gas conversion and it really bugs me when things aren't working.
