how long to change wheel bearings

Post by sln123 »

My 1990 T25 is booked in to have the front and rear wheel bearings relaced and I was trying to get an idea how long it should take to do it. The guy doing it is en ex-VW main dealer mechanic who now works for a local garage. I have supplied the bearings, new brake pads / shoes and brake fitting kit.
He initially quoted about 2 hours for the front and about 4 for the rear which seems ok but I wondered how much longer it could take if things don't go to plan.
Cheers

Fronts are easy enough it is the rears that can take a while. When I did the Kids rears I had to change / make new rear brake lines as they would not free up when removing, twisting the pipe. I would say allow a full day to do both ends. have you considered changing the disc's while you are at it? if the bearings are on the way out the disc can't be far behind.
Never enough time
