No, itchyfeet, you didn't, but you'd be right to. If I get through the evening without my wife killing me, I'll chat to you soon. Massive thanks for taking the time and sharing your knowledge.

Something tells me a drink is on the cards...

All the best!

I suppose being an early crankcase measns its very unlikely to be a 2.1 dj as they didnt do them in the early vans
It may well be possible to build a dj on an early crankcase, most engines have been rebuilt.

I'm soaking all of this up, believe me. And having just washed the white spirit off my hands I can confirm that some moderate rubbing revealed the (correct) VIN number.

Now, I'm going to leave you in peace and work some stuff out for myself. Thanks for all your help and encouragement today.

How's this for starters? I'll re-read the forum rules to check if this is the best way of adding photos. Not used Photobucket at all and Flickr just a little...

Cheers

Chris

E D I T: I have just opened a Photobucket account (as I could see you used one itchyfeet) so I'll start using that now. You'll all be able to see my wallet getting thinner...

right smart van that!

And if its any consolation, I have recon engine from poland. It has a number...the week and year it was done...but no code. The only way to tell is the stroke measurement.

ermie571, thanks for the kind words and encouragement. You're right, navel-gazing time is over. Roll up the sleeves, get a bit grubby, swear a bit and achieve something.
Sound about right?
