t25 idle temp high??
Heya, this is my first t25, but have had many older dubs before, and just wondered if anyone can tell me where the temp should idle at on the gauge? Ill try and post a pic of my idle temp, but it seems higher than any dub ive had in the past. Admittedly, most have been 89/90/91, with an exception of an 82 rocco. None of these idled as high on the gauge as this one does. Its an 83 1.9petrol holdsworth conversion rigid sided pop top. Any help would be appreciated! Cheers, Carl

ok i cant seem to attach the pic.
I-----I--^---I
if this is the gauge, where '^' is, is roughly where the needle sits in traffic.
is this bad?

The gauge on mine idles at around the same position as yours is showing. Had mine 7 years now and its always been the same.

Re: t25 idle temp high??
Pretty much wholly down to the thermostat as to how high it will rise. Since I replaced my waterpump a month or so ago and fitted a new stat, mine sits there too - annoyingly. Its acceptable (just) but not ideal and in traffic I find myself flicking the chicken switch (manual overide). The fan kicks in fine but only once it gets to that level.
Mine used to barely get warm on the old stat but it ran great like that although in winter the heating was a bit poor. Tempted to fit a different stat to bring it down to a level I'm happier with.

Thanks for the replies guys, im not sure if the fan works, i should check this! ill post here again in the daytime once ive checked!
Re: t25 idle temp high??
I can't really see how a stat can do this... unless it's a duffer. Once it's hot and open it should play no part?
In very cold weather it might cycle open/close to limit flow through the rad but unless something is wrong somewhere ?
Is this not more to do with water pump efficiency, old rads and temp senders.

Re: t25 idle temp high??
I have had 3 stats in mine at various times, for various reasons and they all read differently.
Of course you can get ones with different regulation temperatures, some keeping the engine as low as 80 degrees C and some up to nearly 90. I actually prefer my engine to run on the hotter stat. As long as the fan kicks in when it should (when the stat has had to fully open) then all should be OK.

Additional :- If you do ever decide to "play" with different stats, be aware that on your van (early cooling system with metal stat housing on the water pump) the stat housing is, delicate, usually rusted on, and are hard to source (or are Brickwerks doing them again ?)
