No start after fitting recon engine

Post by bluelj73 »

Hi ive just fitted a recon? Engine from Elite vw the engine seems ok , but on first turn over nothing all lights came on, maybe not as they should be but i know what they mean.
I tried starter motor but was faulty so bought a new recon from GSF which once fitted the bus is trying to start but will not turn over, i tried bumping it but again nothing.
Any of you kind 80-90's know what my issue could be
Be most grateful for any help :D

I am no mechanic....

Does the engine turn over by hand? Or by trying to start do you mean the starter is turning the engine but its not firing?

Just so more people can help without asking loads of questions, maybe list whether its
petrol/diesel
engine size and code e.g. aaz/afn/jx/dg/ect
recon block fitted with new ancillaries or old ones refitted

Was it starting fine previously & if so was it gradually getting worse or fine one minute & nothing the next?

If you fit your old dizzy on your new engine would you not have to setup timing as it's a different engine.
Plugs could be sparking at the wrong time?
I could be wrong tho...

I was going to suggest timing, the last dg I had off elite the dizzy drive wasn't fitted correctly but was an easy fix.

Before engine change, it would start fine. The dizzy drive was incorrect and we hav put that right. Timing sounds like a good place to start, im off to DubsAtTheCastle this weekend, which the bus was meant to be coming too. So will hav to look at it monday now
Thanks for your suggestions ill keep you posted how i get on 8)

Have had another go at starting van and still nothing. Been through most things checking all wires are tight and not corroded. The starter motor is turning over but nothing else. checked for a spark on plug but nothing and no spark at end of coil lead either ???
