How to Rebuild a Carb - for an Idiot

Post by captaincalamity »

:D I may be thinking of trying to do something that is way beyond my capability, being a pencil pushing numpty that has pretty basic knowledge of mechanics.

But would rebuilding a carb best be suited to a professional or could I order a kit and have a go :ok

Ask yourself these question
what happens if I really balls it up?
Do I need my van for a daily driver or Holiday in a few weeks time?
How do I know it's actually the carb at fault?

what happens if I really balls it up? I'll have to pay to get it recovered to my local garage with spanner in hand saying "sorry Mister garage man, im a numpty"
Do I need my van for a daily driver or Holiday in a few weeks time? yes, my wife will probably extract my balls and use them for a game of tennis
How do I know it's actually the carb at fault? see my other post, the mechanics have replaced pretty much everything only carb remains, still not 100% sure though

Ok now i have reread your other post id say no dont do it yourself
You have an ongoing intermittant fault, if you wade in without experience and knoledge you may well introduce another fault and that will make finding the origional fault much harder
take it back to the Aircooled workshop and explain it worked after they last had it but fault was back soon after, they should be able to fault find further, afterall theynever really fixed it properly.
if you take it back print out the suggestions from the other post, if they are any good they will be prepared to listen to suggestions, its also a good log of whats happened.

cheers

Update, end of last week, took van into my garage in Eastbourne, they stripped down the carb and cleaned and rebuilt, also changed some petrol lines and also fitted a new fuel pump...drove the van a fair amount this weekend and so far fingers crossed all is running perfectly :ok
