Rebuilt my 2Ltr CU engine last year, but now I have a bad oil leak
On investigation today I have identified its running down the back of the oil filter ( the filter is on tight ), then its makes its way under the crankcase, once warm I have a constant stream of all. Not good with holiday in sight!!!
When i rebuilt the engine I replaced the oil cooler & seals from heritage, I have managed to get a 10mm spanner on the two nuts on the front & tightened slightly but its still leaking.
I think i need to remove to look at the cooler & replace seals again??
Question is, can this be done in situ?

Check it is not the oil pressure switch leaking first.

I had the same problem with the oil pressure switch; the switch fitted had a parallel thread and a 'sealing' washer fitting but the switch is designed to be a taper thread and sealant or tape thread seal, so it was leaking were the sealing washer was resting on the uneven casting it screws into.

If its not the oil pressure switch, you can get to the oil cooler with the engine in situ.
You need to remove the rear tin and fan pipe, then the cooling fan and fan housing. If I remember correctly, the top left tin needs to come out as well.
The worst bit is undoing seized and hard to reach tin screws but Its do-able.
Its over a year since I've done this but I seem to remember that removing and refitting the top tin (for 3+4) is a right pain where it is screwed to the top and bottom tin at the front, if that makes sense.
While its apart, also check the little gasket that joins the oil filter holder to the block.

Yes, oil cooler can be done in situ, but all the fan housing etc needs to come off, definatly check the pressure switch first though. Oil cooler seals are cheap enough, just be careful not to over tighten them.
