Re: Clutch woes

Post by tommin »

Okay put the van up and am trying to work out where to start?
As far as i have read;
1. bolts on bell housing first.
2. bolts from drive shafts second.
3. bolts from g/box to van 3rd
What about the slave cylinder, starter motor and gearshaft rods? Anyone shed some light on this to help!
regards
Tom

Well whatever you did with the editing it sure did the job. Gearbox dropped, clutch out, and there lay the surprise. The clutch outer housing had completely sheared from the rest of the clutch, check out the pics.

Notice the particles of metal covering the housing

Oh well a new clutch needed to be ordered. Will uodate as soon as i get the parts or if i find anything else whilst checking it over.

Yep, but will order the parts and hopefully all will be ok. I have already ordered some new glow plugs and relay, noticed cold starting was getting problematic lol. Now though i have another new issue as i can see oil leaking from below the cambelt cover at back of engine. Trying to find the solution to that one, nothing found in the wiki on how to change the belt and seals in that region???
But for now it is the clutch and gearbox that has my attention.

Well, never seen that one before. I've seen vented brake discs split apart though. :)

What is the tolerance of this drive shaft? I get some movement all round which i would say is about 2-3mm. If this is gone how to replace and what with?

I think 2-3mm is OK

Pilot bearing (fit new one) will take care of that. Try the wet bread method to get old one out - dying to see if that works!

Okay, so do i need to remove the flywheel to do that, as all i see in the center is a hole which has a beveled edge? If it comes out i will go ahead and try the bread method of extraction ha! in for a penny in for a pound.

I drained the gearbox whilst it is on the floor, not so bad with the crap that has stuck to the drain plug, though the oil is really way past its shelf life!

This is the flywheel still attached, i do not know where the pilot bearing should be? In front or behind? Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

Edited the above.
I found this pic in the wiki, which refers to the crank. If i understand it correctly, this is the back end of the flywheel, and if so then the pilot bearing in my flywheel in above pics is non existent? It did not come out with the g/box and i believe it must have disintegrated which caused the clutch housing to shear......

Certainly looks that way. On the plus side, at least you don't have to get it out. On the negative side, just cross your fingers that the hole isn't bigger than it should be now.

Thanks covkid you really know how to make my day  just hope it will be okay.

Received the new glow plug relay yesterday so started to strip out the glowplugs, and boy that number 4 was a real royal pain in the backside. It was seized solid all of 2 hours to remove, but got the buzzard in the end. No problem getting them out from behind the pump either, just lean them back a little and out they come.
