One guy says they are great....one guy has a crap service....whats the conclusion to be drawn.....

Each case has to be fully understood....2 parties always involved. Depends how each manages each others expectations.

It's not a mate doing the work or a friend as a favour! this is supposed to be a vw heritage expert garage. I expected a professional job, which included paperwork. I expect the same kind of service i get when i take my new car to a garage. Especially when paying the same labour rates. There lapse attitude doesn't fill the consumer with confidence. 2 grand is allot of money to me.

My main point was just to warn people they are not as good and professional as there website makes them appear.

The warranty is not worth the paper it's printed on! (Broken fuel pump)

I agree... You should insist and get a full breakdown of cost....i would be getting my extra grand back too...having said that i wouldnt have paid it as i would have had a full breakdown of cost before during and after the saga.

And my new pump...

Maybe the poster was seeking some guidance on what to do about it ?
Or, trying to guage what others would do about it before taking some action.
Seems qite straightforwards to me.
If unhappy with what you have bought, ask for a discount.
If you want a detailed receipt, ask for one.
If you get neither, move on.
Enjoy what you have bought.

I get that...it does frustrate me when people don't demand value for money....

Everyone who accepts shoddy service opens the door to poor practice for others.

My van would be parked squarely in front of their garage until it was sorted.

Parking your van in frnt rather than mine sounds really convenient.

Carnt ever remember having no problems with aircool engines that garages or the reconditioners supply&fit.Apart from when VW used to sell a brand new factory engine sadly not available now.Its not fair when you get a bad service and problems if you get a good recon engine it seems luck on your side.

thanks toby t25 for posting this. I think you have been quite restrained in your comments about elite and have also done well to say the engine is running sweetly, or at least to report what your garage said. a lot of people wondering where to go with their hard earned cash to get replacement engines.£2300 is a lot of money and I for one feel that a proper invoice is not a lot to expect . head banging and brick wall spring to mind. just my opinion

If a trader wont give you an invoice, ask them if they would like to explain why to the tax man.
Because you will be letting him know.
Amazing how quickly an invoice appears.
But you have been given an invoice, just not a detailed invoice, right ?

I have a invoice but i don't think a tax man would be impressed. No van amount stated, total has a $ sign next to it. Looks like a 5 yr old was asked to design a Excel spreadsheet.

At the end if the day, the engine is ok with some minor faults and the price was reasonable. This thread was just to act as a review/warning. Im done with them now as far as I'm concerned. Future mechanical work will be done locally.

Just a quick update to say, I've done just over 1000 miles since the engine swap and I'm really pleased with how its running. Its even been starting instantly, first time in the heavy frost. Its such a relief to set off and not have to worry about breaking down. Money well spent.
