Air con..

Post by KINGPRAWN »

My westy syncro has air con but needs regasing, the problem seems to be that as its '87 it uses the gas that damages the ozone layer,so no nobody can do it ( apparently)... So what's the answer????

You need to change all the o rings and seals to suit the new gas and flush, recharge with R134A oil.

personally I would junk the old system and fit a modern one, plenty of them about, and a lot more efficient
no idea of cost, but if you really want air con then you just assume the position..

Someone would want it i reckon, i put up a double pulley for a jx a while ago and got loads of pm's. Even if people want it to use just the two so they can retro fit factory ps.

A basic re-gas is ~£100, the problem is that the 'old' gas has gone somewhere ... in other words you have a leak ( seal(s) or component(s) ). I'm told by people who know their stuff that IF everything come apart straight away it's a very simple job ... I MAY have been told they now use a different fill valve BUT that may be wrong.

Thanks for your time.... I guess the reality is that it's NOT really money well spent!
It does have a very powerful blower, so I might just remove all but that... Gonna be a cow of a job I expect though!

Having just bought our eldest a Seat Ibiza (with air con) for her 18th birthday and getting in it last week in the full searing fury of Derbyshire summer 2013 I could almost say it's money well-spent IF you are planning to be sat in loads of traffic. Once free-rolling though the fresh air is cooling enough.

I am having trouble with my Aircon. A part where you regas is corroded and VW dont make them anymore.

Anybody know of a firm around South West London that can make a simple elbow pipe with a valve on?

We had our air con serviced last year. When we bought the van the drive belt had been removed and it was described as no air con.

Kev is right for the new gas we had to have all seals and o-rings replaced, plus most of the pipes had perished and had to be replaced. On top of that the compressor had gone and a new one was required. It was in the garage for about a week and I'm sure they were glad to see back of the van.

Total cost was AUD$1200, (£800 approx) but here in Adelaide with 40C summer days we felt it was worth it...
