Drivers Side door lock

Post by darcy1985 »

Hi,

I have a 1988 T25, the drivers side door lock, locks with the same key for the ignition. However when i tried to open it from the outside, it does not open. We only bought the camper this week so i dont know if i just don't have the knack yet?! I believe it is a panel van conversion, the previous owner just used the side door to get in and out, but i was wondering if there might be a straight forward fix for this problem? I hope someone can help, if anyone needs pics or anything then just let me know. Thanks in advance

As a temporary fix spray some wd40 or put a drop of light oil like 3 in 1 in there and see if that works. If that doesn't work others will advise. Good luck.

The handle is only held in with one cross head screw, level with the lock but along door edge under door seal. Probably best way to figure out whats going on is remove door card, have someone outside trying to open the door and look up into door innards and see for yourself. It should be obvious at that point.

The handle itself is made of cast ally and after 25 plus years they are all pretty worn making unlocking/locking sometimes a waggle affair with the key.
You can re-tumble the locks to one key or even replace the odd brass finger to adjust for wear.

Hi everyone, having taken the door card off and had a good look, i can see what the problem is, the mechanism itself is working with no problems but it seems that the key controls the barrel which then turns a piece of metal with two prongs on it, one of those prongs is missing! is it possible to keep the barrel so i don't have to replace the key and get a replacement handle? or do i just have to replace the whole unit? Thanks

V shaped part (prongs) should unscrew so if you can pick up another handle just swap the V part,i may even have one but will need a poke in the garage.

just checked no joy but do have a MK2 GOLF handle which has the same idea of V part and it does unscrew so I'm sure the T25 is the same.
