can anyone make me up brake pipes caliper to flexi

Post by waltraud »

Would anyone be able /willing to make up a couople of the quite short pipes that join the calipers to the fleible hoses? One of my old ones twisted and broke, the other looks old and unreliable. I have asked locally but it seems very few modern garags around me have the skill will or kit to do this. I know it would probably make sense to buy a kit of ebay and DIY but im in a bit of a tight spot.

i was just tightening up and greasing a bearing on the front ns and found a large bulge on the flexi hose- so i rplaced both front flexis with somestainless braided ones i had in cellar from brickwerks. Of coursei should have known that with a 30 year old van it would lead to other things neding replacing . I'm now inclnined to eplace all brake hoses with copprer . Also puts me off replacing the two back pipes with the stainles braided ones i have left!!

If you go to your nearest motor factors they will usually make up any length of brake pipe you need, my local one sells their parts to anyone, at trade prices and has made up brake pipes for me whilst I waited.

Thing is, in hackney where I live there is no good motor factors and the existing ones are pretty basic. Otherwise I would go that route, thanks. Tim

I would also volunteer my services but surely not the simplest way of getting a short pipe made up. I know around our way there wouldn't be many motor factors interested in making up a brake pipe but there are quite a few smaller car accessory shops that would. Motorist Discount/Motor Parts etc....those places that thrive on selling a range of parts and occasionally get involved in changing bulbs and batteries etc unlike your average motor factor who generally don't get involved beyond supplying parts.

The pipe itself isn't the problem, this one curls back on itself quite sharply and even out of kunifer is a bugger to bend without kinking it .... isn't it T'onion  I remember making 4 or 5 at Pickering a few years ago before I managed to bend 2 into the correct shape.

Yes best done with a pipe bender to do the 180degree bend I have all the gear here if no joy elsewhere.

Just did mine and knowing how hard it is to do a short pipe bend i got them made up 50mm longer than the originals...much easier to get that bend in then.theres no reason why they have to be so short .just make some up longer and make sure they dont foul on anything.
