My new 1.9 is running hot? Help please

Post by Cookie77 »

I have just purchased my 1st T25 (had bays and splits in past) and when I punched it the guy gave me a receipt for a recon engine and says it's only done 50 miles ish, but also the guy said it drives fine(it does) but temp can run up sometimes and last owner fitted a fan overide switch on dash to keep down temp,
Done about 50 miles now and yes it runs on 3/4 around town and switch seems to keep it down
However on last trip I noticed a small amount of steam coming from around lower dash area???
So I removed front grills when I got home and although it was blowing hot air the rad was stone cold???
So I checked in the engine bay and 1 hos from lower stat housing hot and the other on hot at housing but cold as it goes over gearbox??.

Does it just need a good bleed or have I got problems? :?

Thanks
Cookie

I'm not in the slightest bit technical and by no means the most sociable of people myself but you might want to say Hi first................... :D

First thing I'd do is give it a bleed, it sounds like an airlock to me....then go from there......

Thermostat is faulty or the wrong one fitted.. or fitted upside down, you don't say what year it is either

early cooling system then.
Follow the wiki for bleeding that.

try running without the thermostat see what happens to the gauge, it should hardly get to half way if it's bled right and non fitted

The engine should be under warranty ... DO NOTHING, phone the warranty holder and let them deal with it. Random meddling will invalidate the warranty.

It's only the engine under warranty not cooling system?
It was a DIY fit I think

Just tried bleeding as on wiki but still no go. I am trying the stat out next :?
