Post by Dai »

Ended up in a well known, but now defunct syncro place in Devon for mechanical work that never happened

Bodywork?

Front end has been returned to original, second slider has been reinstated, rear valance replaced with complete one (think it had been cut for a V8 possibly?), sunroof gone, rear roof cut as per how devon did them, rear arches cut and stretched for 16" arms and 235/85/16s , lower rear corners cut off and replaced as current owner didnt like the lines, front arches cut and stretched more, front out riggers taken out and moved back two inches and sill end replaced as the tyres catch on the return if left 'as is' , front arches have been extended out an inch to protect the door bottoms from spray as the rubbers were too exposed for the owners liking, front and rear bumpers been modified -front has returns/corners installed and rear has been sectioned on the top to allow the filler hatch to open.

All of sandys work was top notch so fortunately reversing it was relatively easy with no horrors.

Think there might have been a reaction with the paint as we stripped it in three hours using razor blades, literally shaved it as the paint hadn't adhered.

Its now SA white, whatever the paint code is.having some sort of grey/blue arctic camp theme done to it. When I am next up the unit will photo it :ok

k......

Was 'repossessed' from a former Syncro Specialist in Devon by the former owner due to it sitting for ages and no work being done. Was meant to have been converted to Tdi, box and diff fitted , all the brake lines but in etc etc etc. Think the owner got hacked off waiting for nothing to happen  Turned up at mates garage and he is doing all the work now. after going through the van and all the parts that turned up it would appear there are LOTS of parts missing (ie £1200 worth of front and rear brake conversion fitted to the van has no flexis, no hand brake cables and the brand new/recon calipers in the boxes, when opened, turned out to be second hand ones waiting to be reconditioned) etc etc . You get the picture

Anyways, Heres the van.

Front end returned to stock. All of the BMW buckets/fixings were cut out and the metal work added to the top grille was taken out.

Image

Front bumper corners extended to make a cleaner line and do away with the gap that could trap anything between corner of bumper and deformation panel.

Image

Front steps/arches extended an inch or so outwards as when the doors shut the bottom of the door/seal would have been exposed directly to water/spray//debris from the road. Water test with a hose at low pressure saw water getting past the rubbers as they were.

Image

OS slider reinstated  Fortuantely Sandys work is top notch so was pretty straight forward, just lots of cutting and welding

Image

Front outrigger moved back 30mm or so. going to be running 235/85/16s and they catch the on return at anything other than the wheels straight ahead. hard to see in this pic but will put pics up on the other post about tyre size thats running at the mo.

Image

Rear valance reinstated as i think it was removed for a V8. Rear bumper has been relieved/rejigged at the top as it was straight across. Has been changed to allow the oil filler flap to open fully.

Image

Engine bay! Nothing exciting but white now

Image

Must have been a reaction with the paint as it literally peeled off the primer and anything left was shaved off with razor blades. Is now SA white but will have arctic camo added later.

Chap who did it is called Darren 07966 841082. Will get him to join the forum one day
