Temp and Pressure Gauges

Re: Temp and Pressure Gauges
Nearly finished connecting up all the gauges, just the boost press to go as I want an elecric one and it seems only stack make one.
What I would really like though is a rev counter, but being a diesel that is not so easy, I've googled solutions and most seem to refer back to a sensor on the alternator that picks up frequency which is then calibrated.
But when my "buzzer of doom" oil pressure alarm and light came on the other day (got a gauge now so no worries ) it got me thinking.........if I'm correct that buzzer goes off if oil pressure has not reached a set amount at 2000 rpm..............which led me to think if something knows the engine is doing 2000 revs then what is it and could I tap off it to run a tachometer??

Re: Temp and Pressure Gauges
Green wire on the multiplug on back of dash pod is the alt signal. On the alt it is a red/black wire from memory.. You could just look out for diesel rev counter dash pod, it should be plug and play

......Yes of course...never thought of that, sometimes the most obvious thing is overlooked, if I find one I'll post although might be difficult.lloydy wrote:Green wire on the multiplug on back of dash pod is the alt signal. Re: Temp and Pressure Gauges
Wow good thread!
I wish I had seen this before I planned and installed my set up...
Anyways, I have fitted four programmable Stack gauges for Oil (pressure and temp), Water temp and Voltage in an overhead console.
I had endless problems with my oil light staying on (no buzzer though) after changing the senders, checking wiring etc it was still playing up. Oil pressure is actually good with around 1.8 bar at idle when up to temp and 3.5 + bar on a cruise, so no problems there (rebuilt DG).
I no longer use the original warnings, and the sensors for the gauges replace the two originals in the block, it works well and has a self test buzzer at start up too.
The gauges were expensive but I am trying to future proof the set up as I go through the van doing stuff, as I do plan to keep it.
Cheers

Re: Temp and Pressure Gauges
Finally got a photo up...........as requested:
Centre hole is for the elecric boost gauge.....all still work in progress at the moment. I'll have a switch on the side also so can measure either main battery OR auxiliary battery.
The little red LED at the side is a direct connection to the Glow plug Busbar, I've found the dash warning glow plug light goes off before the relay actually swithces off. this way I know for sure that the glow plugs are totalluy off.

Re: Temp and Pressure Gauges
I like the idea of switching between batteries, may do that mod to mine.

Re: Temp and Pressure Gauges
anyone have any experiences of SPA gauges?
thinking of getting their oil temp/pressure gauge
https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/sp ... -spa-dg201" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Quite like the idea that it comes with warning lights for high/low temp and pressure. Handy for me because i dont have the W terminal on my alternator, so my buzzer of doom circuit doesn't work.
A bit expensive, but when you add up VDO pressure and temp plus the senders it's around the same

Re: Temp and Pressure Gauges
Be thankful you don't have the buzzer! Pain in the butt....mine goes off every now and then when it seeks attention...... Only now I have the pressure gauge a quick smack in the side a few times usually stops it!lloydy wrote:anyone have any experiences of SPA gauges?

Personally I prefer the good old analogue gauges..... But you can't beat the two in one display... Saves space and yes they do look good.
I now have the stack boost gauge in the middle of 4 VDO gauges. But whereas the VDO's will dim the Stack stays much brighter so ends up like a lighthouse in The dashboard.......in case anyone is thinking of mixing gauge manufacturers.
