Re: 16" wheel centres?
Hi folks - have to admit you now have me interested as I am a plastics and materials man. Yep looking at the caps they are definitely injection moulded and also with excessive venting (note the 4 round impressions on the picture). The tool probably injects plastic at two or more points on the rim to make the part). The fact you have a thick section means it's going to be pretty robust. However looking at the shape of it you could make it out of polypropylene too I would think although for the van age --ABS would probably been the material of choice. I would be surprised if they used glass filled with a section like that. In terms of tools I think you lot are getting a bit carried away. On a small machine a single cavity steel tool could make thousands of parts a year so I am perplexed as to why such a tool could make so few. You need to find a company with small machines or better still a pilot facility that had the resources to do this on the scale required. Boys machines are ideal for a project like this( boys are a manufacturer). Mass mould would be a good company to talk to as they specialise in making caps. It would be useful to have a cap to kick a discussion off with someone.

It's no wonder VW UK don't have any of these left, what with everyone's garages stuffed full of them
At 29 euros each from classic vw, I think I will make do with some alternative ones.

Think this would be an ideal part to 3D print.

Is there any chance that the CAD drawing could be sent to me, I know some peeps with 3D printers and I'll see if anyone will print one out for me in ABS to try out for fit.
