16 inch arms (even shorter legs!)

Has anyone out there ever considered making up a jig to lengthen the standard trailing arms to accommodate larger tyres AKA Syncro 16?

From what I understand, this is exactly what VW did, when they produced the original.

Anyone got a photo of a 16" arm to show where this cut and shut took place originally, and an idea of how much it has been lengthened over the original?
