True, but the sticker says it has a 16" gearbox

Ah a fellow plumber, proper trade.....
If you look in bodywork section you'll see my van getting restored. Thread called gaswagon.
Also a thread on this syncro section called 'getting there' it a amazingly long build thread and I consider it a bible on 'how to spend all your money on a syncro'

Trailing arms can be refurbed by Dai, on here, so , just to clarify - you have bought a 16" Doka that you are stripping to put the bits on a Westy? If so which bits are you after ? Are these missing from the Doka ?

hi there
if you have a doka as your donor for a westy, you can use every thing that you have on the doka syncro wise apart for the tank and the fuel filler, as pick ups and vans used different parts for this.
i see that your only in richmond you have several syncros and owners quite close by, i am sure if needed/wanted we could pop over and have a look and offer some advise and possibly guidance.
i would also add in to the cost of the rebuild the cost of rebushing and refurbing all the bolt on syncro parts. it will cost a few pounds now but will be a lot easier when everything is off the van.
i would also be talking to aidan about a gearbox and possibly a diff rebuild as the donor has i imagen has little history.

all the best neil

Yes wanting to turn my westy into a 16" & I wasn't confident at what I was looking at with the Doka I've bought, I don't think anything is missing from it as such. I couldn't find the rear box code only the front. According to the spec page on here it's a 16" without front diff lock & the dash only has one diff button. The main gearbox rear half has definitely had work with gasket sealant oozing from the joints. It's a 1600 turbo diesel with a knacked clutch & a ton of rust !
In terms of missing parts what I'm reading I'll still need a petrol tank and filler as my westy is currently 1.9 petrol

Hi Neil
That's great, I could definitely use the help, if anyone could spare 10 mins on the phone that would be a brilliant start. The forum is great but a conversation is even better !

Amazing, I'll need a few hours to get through that. How do you ever get the time for work ?!
