89 Syncro with LPG - What's It Worth

Post by almo »

My Syncro must go :(

I know it's rare and lovely beast (was featured on a VW magazine when new) and a major part of the family—we've loved it and used it daily for about 5 years now, but we need a camper and don't wan to spoil a collectable like this so it's time to let somebody else have a go. I would love to keep her but she wont last if I do the mileage I'll need to be doing with my work, so we need something a bit newer and preferably a camper already. But I don't know how much to ask for or where's the best place to sell it.

She's an 89 F-reg blue T25 Syncro Caravelle in fair condition, with LPG conversion, tow bar, central locking, 7 seats (plus I've a spare flap-down seat that I never got round to fitting). It's the 2litre. She has 138000 odd on the clock but we put a new recon in at about 115k, and we've just had it rebuilt with new head gaskets, new MOT and a full service. (See my other threads about the head gasket saga). She runs great and is very solid. Insides are still OK and pretty god for the age, but not immaculate. Underneath is sound too.

She has a small dent on the rear passenger-side wheel arch, plus a few minor wear & tear scratches and small barely noticeable dents that you'd expect to see on a daily use vehicle. Used most days on a 10 mile commute plus occasional trips round the West Wales coast most summers, with very occasional towing of a small boat, which it breezes. Iv'e never had reason to use the diff-locks and read that it's not a good idea to unless you're a serious off-roader, so I would suggest the new owner gets that serviced before going off-road.

We had a few rusty bits cut out and welded 2 years ago, then had a partial re-spray (all outside apart from roof) and new seals on boh screens, including the chrome inlays.

Whilst this is not a blatant advert, if anyone does happen have a nice T4 or T5 with a rock'n'roll bed we could maybe do a deal ;)

Before I go and sell her I'd appreciate all your opinions on her value, so how much do you think it's worth?

Thanks for your more than generous offer Lloydy, but I must turn down on this occasion.

However, I've pencilled you in for 1st refusal, should the time come. :-)

Well.. I didnt know it was a caravelle.. which most people dont want and would prkb convert into a camper.. I have said several times that the only way I would get rid o my 2wd caravelle is by replacing it with a syncro velle....
I could then contemplate selling the syncro doka.....

Hi Almo

I think you should get at least £5K for her.

Best place to advertise is on her or ebay.

I'm on Gower if your down this way, I'd be more than happy to have a look and chat over a cuppa.

Cheers Rich

Stick it up on E Bay with a reserve of £5k and set the bidding at £0.99p and see where the bidding goes to. That will be its value ..... on the day!
