Re: Golf Syncro info???
I have a rallye...golf syncro has a rod shift gearbox but passat and rallye, and country have a cable box...the rod box is not very strong in comparison.
If your planning a off road type thing you would be best to upgrade the box in my opinion.
I have some manuals, and have done diffs and bevel box bearings in the past but the vw 385 tool is required to do them properly...just like a with a T3 box.
What do you need to know?

Re: Golf Syncro info???
Looks a bit rusty in the pics.. most of it is dirt and leaf debris stains.. (black stuff).. Does need a serious t cut and polish.....
But..
Both rear doors have gone rusty .. Bonnet leading edge could do with a grind and repaint.. couple of patchy spray jobs here and there too..
Not given it a good going over yet.. but both sills have blebs on them bulging the plastic trim so I reckon at least a patch job needed...
Its got power steering, 89k miles on the clock (believe it to be correct as my friend has owned it nearly 11 years..) central locking.. and seems to have all its nice syncro badges intact...
Brakes have freed off as can push it myself, engine turns over (rocked it in 5th gear..) but no coolant in it.. could be rad or something more sinister.. no water in oil..
Shock towers and windscreen scuttle panel all good.. as are the water drain holes and panels there too as I thought with the leaf debris these would have suffered...
Interior is very clean and dry..
So.. Plan is to get it in the new workshop and get it up in the air with all wheels off.. Start making a list of parts it needs to get to MOT..
Engine wise.. was just gonna service it.. clean the carb, fresh petrol, fill it with water to see where the leak is.. if its more than a hose or rad or something similarly simple.. cam belt looks ok.. but prob sensible to get a new belt kit and water pump if it holds water...
So.. if you might have any MK2 golf stuff kicking about in the garage you want to get shot of.. let me know what you have..
Full assessment before spending much on it..

Moved it into my new workshop space.. along with the black BMW and trailer..
Just need to get a bit of racking up, a solid workbench and a steel cupboard to lock a few tools away in.. If anyone has some surplus cupboard, pm me..

Just been clearing out. Got Mk 2 Golf complete rear light units and rear wiper motor and mechanism. Also complete fuel injection system from 2.0 litre Audi that went in one of my old 8V GTIs (includes head). Yours for a pint if they are any use.
