So... remebering womething that was discussed at Salisbury weekend.....
these cheap cv's have popped up in a hread every now and then with peeps asking and some saying they are buying.. but has anyone actually bought any?
Who has ftted them to what? (heavy camper or light pickup etc)
Done how many miles on them?..
So come on.. own up and tell us if you bought one.....

Re: Cheapie front outer cv's???
I fitted a cheap front outer to mine a few weeks ago. I haven't done a lot of miles on it yet, but so far it survived Salisbury Plain where it received a good dunking.
Heavy camper with a 50mm lift. I'm feeling pretty confident TBH.
The only issue I had was the clip wouldn't go over the shaft. So I ended up using the old clip.
The one I used was branded Rovex or something.

Are you guys swapping the collar onto the joint to take the seal?
Or have you just whacked them on to see how they last without it?

The collar won't go on, too slack.
I have some here on the shelf just not found anyone brave enough to try them that won't moan at me if it breaks.

Shame that collar won't go on, they'd inspire a bit more confidence if the seal was present.
Hasn't Rich (peninsula kid) been running one for a while now?

Is the collar to stop dirt going into the wheel bearing?

The collar is there to hold a seal that works with the seal on the back of the wheel bearing.
So yeah, it's protecting the wheel bearing.

Aidan has just informed me that if the shoulder is there that would normally take the collar, then there is a seal available that can be glued on there. About £3 each..

Yeah - this is what I've done to a pair of partsintheBox 14" front outers. Been good so far after 5 years abuse.

Well. As I need to refirb a couple of driveshsfts.. I am willing to test them without moaning if they break.. I have a couple of used complete shafts I want to rebuild as emergency/spares. I even have a set of rubber seals that dont need the collar...Simon Baxter wrote:The collar won't go on, too slack.

Re: Cheapie front outer cv's???
I've bought one to take to Morocco as a spare and i've got the seal for it too.
Hopefully wont get to use it, but its a great 'get you out of the doo doo' spare to carry for the price.
I might even stick it on the van maybe....... 5000 miles and a good portion of it offroad has to be a fairly good test...we'll see.....

Re: Cheapie front outer cv's???
Does anyone have a link to where I can buy the seal please? I think I'll remove the shaft and add the seal.

Re: Cheapie front outer cv's???
Everything the same as the one I fitted but mine didn't have the seal. Mine was bought a while ago but not fitted until recently. Maybe they have added the seal since.
