Yes, that looks too low... my Doka usually weighs 1760~1780 kg empty at the metal weighing in nr here. They are kosher so prob. pretty accurate and consistent.

I thought the ex factory towing nose weight was 150 kg, so that could well be the amended figure for a modified T3.

On weighbridges...

The criteria at a scrappie is not absolute calibration but difference between IN and OUT.

These are quite different things abs. and rel. calibration.

Also I'm sure it's easy for them to frig around with the zero point from the office :|

Re: towbars, I have a Westy one on the SA (fixed 2wd type, not bolt-on syncro) that is rated at 1800kg towing weight; it came from an early Diesel bus. I know that the Halal Moroccan Westy has a similar one (also fixed) that has an additional central reinforcement plate on top and a collar around the hook where it meets the main tube.
That is rated at 2000kg.

There a clearly more than a few variants of the Westy towbar. Doesn't explain why Lloyd's one doesn't have a towing weight on the plate, only the nose weight :? I don't know what the "D-Wert 12.7 Kn" refers to either.

PS the tabled kerb weight difference between the 14" and 16" syncros of the same specification is 50kg IIRC for brakes, reinforcement panels and fat CV's etc ( unless that also includes the spare wheel carrier? 16" buses never had the spare under the front did they?)

Seems to be some different nose weights for some reason too.. mine has 75kgs... which considering its a petrol and therefore the engine weight is less.. you would think the rear axle losding could be more..

tyre carrier was a option you had to spec from what i've read. Tyre was carried inside at the back otherwise

According to VW a Syncro DoKa has an unladen weight (incl driver) of 1595 Kgs. So what have you fitted that weighs 150 odd kgs?

Sebastian S wrote:2360 sounds heavy! I had my 14" on a weigh bridge couple of months ago. Came in at 1660kg (empty, no driver, ~half a tank of gas). That's a petrol tintop with 15" steelies. Interior at the time was GL rear seat, multivan b2b-seat and the rubber carpets throughout. Will try and put it on the weigh bridge again with the full multivan interior fitted, but I reckon it isn't that much heavier even with the cupboards etc.

As said, calibration can be iffy.

That actually sounds about right according to the VW Handbook

When i was doing my Battery maintenance job we used to put the truck on various weighbridges and all of them gave radically different figures for the vehicle.

Andrew,

Plus:-
5 x 15" Mefro wheels and MT tyres (anyone know the difference?)
Buffalo boarded out (9mm)
Some camping tables & chairs in locker
Stuff under rear seat (more than you would think. .. 10 kg?)
Tarp, heavier rubber mats in back
1 x swivel seat base
1/2 tank fuel (30 kg ?)
Tow bar (sq.box section type)
CB radio, inverter;
Bigger battery than std. (80 AH)
1.9 AAZ vs 1.6 JX ?
Custom 2.5" s/s exhaust, s/s silencer patterned on original.
Large intercooler, small rad, short hoses, water and spherical plastic header tank
19 row oil cooler, 29 ft x 3/4" oil hose, take-off plate, additional 3 litres oil
Some mud (not a lot) and some Dinitrol (a fair bit) :)

Minus:-
Turbo blower and wiring

As I said, Evans' nr. here are a proper old school scrap metal dealer who would at least attempt to keep their weighbridge calibrated.

Should think that lot could account for 150 ~ 160 kg if we put figures each item.

Good point re: tyres and wheels. I'm surprised how light Ronal R8's are in comparison to the Vito steels.

Regarding the weight of accessories etc. I weighed the 3-ton "rotolift" chain hoist and that comes in at a solid 25kg! I thought that it was hefty...

I reasoned it was time to empty the syncro of things like my main toolkit (~20kg) and the ammo box of brutality ( another 15kg of saws, hammers, files, pry bars etc) so there's 60 kg or around 8 stone in old money.

What does a hi-lift/jackall weigh btw?

PS might it be worth taking a look through the old brochures and spec sheets on vw-pix.org to get some definitive "book" weights :?:

Hi-lift jack's got to be 20 kg with the solid bar LR style adapter?

So a few basic trail tools like a hi-lift, hand winch, waffles and shovel etc and you've already go another adult passenger hiding under the back seat...

But none of this adds up to Lloyd's Multivan weighing 2.3 tonnes!
