Need them? all depends on what you intend to do. Yes you can retro fit them, but I would imagine its going to cost. Plus youll need all the tubing, pnuematic switches, resevoir etc. Best to have a word with someone whos breaking one.

As above, you need all the vacuum pipes ect, then you need to fit the mechanical stuff to the boxes. I think that would only be cost effective when you have the box rebuilt.

Lots. Cheaper to sell & buy a syncro with lockers, but even then they'll probably be stuck!!

I have a 4.86 front locking diff complete which I no longer need. Was rebuilt by Aidan and has very little miles on it.

Sounds more like your VC has failed, if your rear wheel was spinning but nothing going on at the front, it's failed for sure. You shouldn't get stuck in mud if the 4WD is working. So you want to fix that before you worry about diff locks.
A syncro is pretty capable in mud and slippy stuff

Brickwerks is the normal place... Have you had a look underneath though? Is the prop fitted?

It will do. The question is, is whether its converting that rotation to the front wheels. The key is the VC. Expensive.
