Flippin ' 'eck, that were chilly!

No problems running heaters, which was very necessary after a day's surfing.

Ice on the inside of the windows on saturday morning though!

Maybe I should look at getting something I can plug in to run (gently) overnight - didnt fancy running a fan heater all night, or risking torching the van with the 'electric element' type

Oh well, be spring soon anyway :D

heater

Post by Frostbus »

hi all
just thought i would throw this in; dividing the watage by the voltage will give amps required.
dont forget that some appliance's draw more amps on initial start.
hope this helps you work out if you can run heater.

instead of a timer you can get a plug in thermostat! plugs in to the socket, heater plugs in to that, you can set th e temp and it goes on and off on it's own!

We use a 2k fan heater which has inbuilt variable thermostat and in very cold conditions we leave it on overnight and it will cut in for only 1 min at time just to keep air temp where we want it. It has 0k 1k and 2k setting so it never fries us. On my zig i find it will get hot when i run the heater and the DVD and some lights on but its never fused yet. In summer I sometimes carry an extra portable fridge off the 12v and this seems to make the zig hot especially as the ambiant temp is much higher in the van.
Im not the first and I wont be the last
