T25 high top 1.9 fuel consumption

Post by davesarge »

Hi,

Got a 1.9 petrol high top transporter autosleeper conversion which seems to drink fuel quicker than Oliver Reed sank the good stuff. I appreciate on occasion I only travel 5 miles in to work and obviously the return home. From this it delivers 75 miles to 23ltrs which would appear to be 15 -17 mpg?? the plugs are a little black (before I changed them) I am happy to take it to be tuned etc but thought I would ask if anyone has an idea what I should be seeing round town or on a run? not used to the flat 4 engine so cannot tell if its idling high or not? i.e whether the choke is staying on too long. New to the VW game but loving it

thanks

If you only doing 5 miles each way to work you shouldn't expect much bettet than 20mpg. For the first couple of miles each way the engine will be running on choke.

A tune up will obviously help a little. I would say that you will be lucky to ever get more than 25mpg & if you travel at more than about 65mph on the motorway make sure that you are towing your own personal fuel bowser!

local gas supplier in Wolverhampton called Carvers...taxi drivers only pay 30p
there's three round here that sell it for under 40p

I guess we're just lucky :D

wholesale gas price is 19p then add the road fuel tax and VAT + profit
