Oil leak 1989 type 25

Post by davesarge »

Hi, Got an annoying oil leak on my 1.9 petrol engine, it appears to be coming from the oil filler pipe where it joins the engine via a manifold type joint. Should this have a gasket? or is it a dry joint that perhaps hylomar will overcome? The engine was replaced 12000 miles ago before I bought the van it was a new engine.

Cheers

I had this problem with my first engine, sometimes the metal bit of the oil filler neck corodes that much that it gets pitted and has pin holes in it. May be worth a look.

This is easy to make and handy to produce a flat surface very quickly - once you've got one, can be used time and again...

if you can't get, make or lay your hand on a gasket, Black HighTemp silicone gasket maker is good stuff.

Had this on mine too. Was a hole rusted through. Garage repaired with that paste which you mix from two components when recon engine fitted but didn't last. Got replacement from dismantlers
