rattly tappet

anyone know ? sometimes i get a rattly tappet accompanied by a misfire wondered if any body knows whether the rattly tappet cause the misfire or vice versa ?

from a cold start after a a period of non use?

Does the noisy tappet go away after a good drive around (half hour) and the misfire disappear?

I'd guess the rattly tappet causes the misfire (backfire?). Valve not open/closed when it should be.
