oil for 1. 6td

Post by Kool-Kamper »

Hi all,
This has probably been covered 1001 times. I have searched back trough posts looking for a definitve answer but alas I have not found one. So here goes with todays teaser!!

What oil should I put in my 1.6td?
Should I go for 10/40 oil?
Someone told me 5/30 would be ok, is this the case?
Book says one of VW standard
Go on someone enlighten me

Thanks

PS I don't want racing oil at hundreds of punds a gallon!! Just pure simple golden oily stuff to lubricate moving parts

DO NOT use a 5w30
IIRC VW stated a 15w40 from new and a 5w30 will surely be far too thin and leak out and cause low oil pressure... also cost a bit too.. (synthetic)
A good branded oil and changed often...

You can easily get the oil that meets VWs standard 808.00 or something like that. As for the weight, go for 15w40.
