You really do know how to pick them, yet another beauty you have there!

Would you not keep the analogue timer for the originality? I think it looks great.

I look forward to following your progress  :ok

cheers yes its a great example  Yep Im keeping the timer now as no other one will work with the Ebber, if I did need to change heaters I'd still keep it and just hide a digital timer somewhere

I like that idea a lot, where did you get yours from Forden?

A mate of mine works at a local graphics company, he made a batch for me. I only needed black though so easy. I’m sure you can get a very close match though.

Mine went for its first MoT today, I would have been annoyed if there was anything amiss on that! Nice having a new van after all the years patching up the old one to get it through .

I have heard that taking the van for a good drive improves the emissions along with an oil and filter change.

So finally getting around to starting a few jobs on the old girl. I want to overhaul the cooling system and started a thread here with a few questions. Part of me wants to strip the van completely and do everything but then I wont be driving it over the summer so I'm trying to balance the urge to do it all in one hit with using it :idea

I'm away for a bit in April so I wont attack the cooling system until I return so I have made a start on the canopy. I can't believe I had considered selling this when I bought the van, it has proved to be really useful when collecting wood and moving stuff etc.

It is so well made and considering it 37 years old, its in great condition and just needs a bit of TLC and looking after

I love the attention to detail, little pads that sit against the bump stops

Small bit of wear on the rear corner and only one small rip

The straps are really useful for holding up the side but the buckles are pretty rusty so I want to repair and save them from further rusting...

All removed, stripped and in a citric acid bath to remove as much of the rust as possible

The canopy fixes into the gutter on a three piece frame held with one screw on each side...

Gutters were all clean and rust free when I removed it

Canopy itself has cleaned up really well....

Frame removed and ready for the blasters, it was surprisingly heavy.

First time the back of the old girl has seen the light of day in over 30 years, thankfully rust free too

Looking a bit bare, I had got used to the canopy  It will go back on for winters, nice to have it open backed in the summer

Image

Buffalo board removed from the drop sides today, most of the rivets had corroded away, will be re-attached when I need to move logs etc....drop sides in excellent condition and cleaned up lovely

Re: The Green Doka Machine

So finally got the Doka out and taxed and took it for a run to get more fuel and it was terrible. Kept cutting out and I had to feather the clutch to keep the revs up and very little power on acceleration. At first I thought its bad fuel so filled up with 30L of E5 and I thought it would sort itself on the run home but its still terrible. Over winter I took it out from time to time and turned it over but didn't take it for a run.

I have checked the leads, plugs, timing, dizzy cap & arm, fuel coming from mechanical pump, fuel filter and carb witches hat filter and all are good.

So I had a bit of a look at the carb, this is the choke at cold with pedal pressed once...which looked quite open compared to what I have read on here.

Image

I gave it a bit of a clean up with the airline and lubricated the choke mechanism and adjusted the choke gap. As you can see someone has made their own replacement part with yellow plastic, once I got to this stage I realised the carb needs a complete rebuild, the old girl is 37 years of age and I am sure many parts are worn. I popped it back on and it is running a little better but its not wonderful.

I had a long chat with John from BromyardVW and a recon unit will be in the post in a couple of weeks
