1, Got all the gears
2, Bled the brakes (gas torch 30 seconds on each bleed nipple did the trick)
Dare I say it - mechanicals, done. For this stage anyway.
Brake lights permanently on, I think it just needs a good run to get the rust off the hubs.
Bit of wiring in the engine bay to finish off for the T7a connector and we are there.
Really enjoyed this one, timing was perfect for lockdown.
MOT soon ...

I have a good friend who I’ve asked to do the decals. I just need to measure the doors and get the dimensions over to her.

Love the patina of the paintwork

I’m enjoying that too. Mechanically good, with the patina and I’ll be happy. I have this wax called Collinite 845 on recommendation so when I’m in the mood, we’ll see what the paint does. I’d like to rub down the rust slightly, then seal it.

Won’t start…
"If your starter relay has gone bad, the electrical signal will never make it from the battery to the starter motor. As a result, your engine won't turn over - no matter how many times you turn the key. A faulty relay often produces an audible clicking sound when you turn your car"
I have this ^^
I’ll apply 12V to all of them, on pins 85 & 86 to see if they click, as I don’t know which is the starter relay.
My position 7 relay (fog lamp) is missing, so I’ve hopefully solved the lack of working rear fog lamp. Ah actually, I think it’s S27 fuse 10A, wherever that is?

My money was on #18 but it clicks and offers a resistance across the larger TABS when 12V applied to it, so I’m at a bit of a loss now …

Took starter motor out and it bench tested fine, 12V applied and a screw driver shorted across the terminals. So put it back in. I then applied same additional 12V to starter and applied screw driver across terminals. It really struggled to turn but did turn, therefore it’s not relay related.
Any ideas why it’s struggling to turn? Seems to be a massive drain on the batteries with trying to turn.
My back brake lights are permanently on since I bled the brakes.
I have a new earth strap from the engine to the stud under the coil.
I’ll refurbish the gearbox earth strap next, but I’m a bit stuck other than that to be honest…

Could it be the solenoid switch Martin - If you a have a Bosch starter, i have a brand new aftermarket solenoid that i can send to you to try to see if that works?

Well, I thought that too. I took the starter down to a local old school electrics chap just 2 days ago. He said my old solenoid was fine but he changed it anyway and tested it, ok. The fact that I saw it kick out the gear when I bench tested it too, should suggest it’s ok?

Fixed. It was the gearbox earth strap. Wire wheeled it along with the studs, nuts, washers and chassis and wire wheeled the starter motor battery feed +12V contacts too. Started first time on the button!
The earthing of this system is no where near the starter motor. It’s on the gearbox via a copper strap. Another strap on the battery, of course.
Flushed out the water I was using temporarily for coolant in case it leaked. It didn’t, so I’ve replaced with anti-feeeze.
