Ah, yes. Look away now kids. I used to get a Pirelli calendar every year from one of my fibre optic cable suppliers :) I think Pirelli cable group is now called Prysmian.

What we found today...

Image

A jack and wrench, correct for our vans.

Image

Image

What I can only assume is a TDi gearbox, gearbox mount and a starter motor. Came with a TDi engine (thrown in).

Image

Ah, this was my favourite. A walk down 80’s memory lane with a rubbish Moss Alarm, long since disconnected (obvs.)

I can drop the junk engine out and drag it out, question is - what do I do with it then?

1, Leave it for the Gypo's
2, Throw it over the back fence
3, Put £20 o.n.o. on it, in the hope it gets nicked
4, Chuck it in the woods

Any serious answers welcome  :D

Chuck it on the swaps and giveaways mate if it’s too far gone - someone might take it for a rebuild.

Love the moss alarm - I had one behind the front grill which was also disconnected.

The spare gearbox in the locker box; I dragged it out and after a scrub it revealed 091 301 107C which refers to the bell housing I believe. The code on its base is 091 301 211C which is AFAIK an ALD 1.7L diesel gearbox, 4-speed. Produced in September 1986. It is now surplus to requirements.

Image

The gearstick and short gearbox mount suggest it has a 5-speed dog leg.

The starter motor in the locker box came from a Mk3 Golf 1.9 diesel. A Bosch 1005821791

Binnacle is in but needs a handbrake warning lamp thing 251919232E and the reservoir needs some brake fluid.

I'll wet vac the seats and a beaded seat cover for driver's. Unless I can get a replacement seat or do the seat covers come off, could I replace that only?

The stereo works both door speakers. The tape has the blues singer John Lee Hooker on it (best guess). It’s a Panasonic R111L, that’s staying.

It hasn’t been covered in black underseal, so you can still see the original paint in the wheel arches; well, after I scrapped all the mud off that is.

Locker box is drying out nicely.

Bed ok too.

Hoping to pull the Mk3 Golf 1.9 Turbo Diesel engine out of it soon, shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes for 2 of us. It is only connected loosely on its mounting bars, a gearbox bolt (singular!) & a lump of wood+chain?!

Well considering it’s been sitting for 13 years, you’d certainly expect it to look a lot worse than that underneath.

She’s cleaned up alright around that arch (what’s it like around the front window). With regards to the seat, you maybe able to get some material for it, but could be worth taking a close up picture showing the material colour and putting it on the wanted list as someone may have a seat out there that matches.

What engine are you putting in it - is it the DG that you were on the look out for?

Good shout on the replacement seat, I’ll post up the material.

Front windscreen, mint all around it.

I’m putting my 2.1 MV in it, which is currently in the Caravelle. The 1.9 DG that’s on its way from Mick Crowe is going into the Caravelle. I’m selling the Caravelle. Big Decision! The Caravelle log book and birth certificate has DG on it - albeit the original DG engine is now in Singlecab I; well, the case is anyway & living a nice life in Norfolk.
