You're doing some fantastic work there .interested in the window surround repair , I did mine a good few years ago and unfortunately didnt do them very well. They will need doing in the next 12 months or so but I'm considering just having solid panels in the back and doing away with the windows.
Keep at it , itll be worth it .

Thanks [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].

Latest progress is I’ve replaced the inner sill, I replaced it two thirds along as I didn’t want to mess around with the jacking point. Just need to rebuild the outriggers this weekend and put a repair plate over the rear swing arm mount. Image

I’ve decided to replace the rear valance as the mounting chassis extensions were pretty rusty. The valance itself also appears to be 50% filler.

Dazco,

It'll be worth it, I love having a van and can't wait to do some more trips next year. :D

Out of curiosity - where do you think you went wrong with the window surrounds? I've replaced the corroded parts completely and have painted with 2 coats of bilthammer galvanizing paint and filled for a nice smooth finish for the window rubber.

Maxstu,

Thanks pal, nice to see you are nice and local! I know Margate a little, I recently worked on the new Ramsgate Fire Station construction project, so was over that way for a couple of years.

I actually have a Schofields replacement section all primed and ready to be plugged welded. The left side looks completely FUBAR so perhaps for that side?!

It was one of the first jobs I tackled on the Jambo van and I did it in relatively small parts, I was still learning with the welder. Just made a bit of hash of things. Having said that its lasted a good few years and has probably got a few more yet but I want to sort it.

I'm thinking of plating the rears completely or using factory fitted window body cuts. I'm not sure yet ,but as we always have the curtains drawn in the back I quite like the idea of solid sides.

Max/Stu,

Are these still knocking about? I may have had an incident with a hammer and a much forgotten tack weld that turned my repair panel into a a W shape.

A little update...

Repaired the C pillar which had been hacked from a previous repair.

Image

Repair on bottom of B column , which to my relief wasn't too bad.

Image

Welded in the new B pillar bottom outer.Image

Welded in the replacemnet battery box and reformed the rest. Self tapping screws have changed my life! Please excuse some the crap welding here which has been completed now. Image

Image

Rebuilt the rear corner.

Image
Not an overlap!

Image
Image

Dry fitted the rear arch and cut down to meet the rear quater.Image

Checking for allignment and that everything fits. Beat the black panel into submission to make sure everything fits.Image

Went down the beach as it's been 32c!

Still your's mate. How desperate are you as we are touring at present? Around Chichester area. And not back home until around 18th.
There's a few pubs we would care to visit around Hythe ( we are following a book about Smugglers' pubs in Kent ) on our return. So can deliver to you latter part of month.
Otherwise they are yours to collect from Margate after 18th.
Regards
Stuart

No rush, Stuart.

That's really appreciated. Perhaps PM me when you're back and we can work something out? Have a good time away!
