Still here...

Drilling spot welds holding the arch to the inner panel

Cut the arch off, then took the final strip off with a powerfile, as I couldn’t see the welds to drill them.

All clean

Nice job.... and how many hours did that little lot take ?

3.
regular sharpening of the bit with a handheld diamond whetstone worked pretty well.
Buy a new arch, and cross my fingers that I'm successful in getting a part time job that I've just put in for. 18hrs, uni termtime only, walk or cycle to work. What's not to love... Plenty of time for the van, and spending more time with my other half, who retires soon.

Good luck with the job, Roger and thank you for Rustoration. Just finished reading the whole lot, very inspiring as many have commented plus extremely encouraging.
I have recently moved house also, endless job trying to sort stuff out .
Have bought a mig welder to tackle seams and rust holes on my bus.Very small areas compared to yours.
This novice has been inspired by your post :ok
Keep up the good work.
Peter

Very kind of you sir. Well done on buying a welder, it’s the only way to go. Practice practice practice...

And I hope you’re right about how little your van needs, I really do :?

Your right there Roger.
Only done a little bit outside, have got water in the upper cavity and discovered a hole in my tin roof( back right corner) roof needs to come off and remove all the interior. I will only then just be scratching the surface.
Fingers crossed
Peter

Still here, chipping away. Work stresses being eased by knocking off acouple of hours early one day a week to keep going at this. Very therapeutic it is too. And less than a year til I plan to retire...

Not all done today, but a summary of recent stuff. Today I shaped the vertical infill piece to give a clean vertical for the seam to come off. Looks like I cut the outer edge too short but a fillet can be placed on it...

I’ve not been doing nothing. Hoping this solves some metal bending problems.

Aforementioned bender was "pooh", at least the way I built it. Too long, not stiff enough.

You live and learn.
Butchered it to create this...

The folder removes like so...
Image

Gives me 41 cm of folding length, and works well. Might add a rear adjustable brace to tighten up the centre portion of the fold, but I’m happy again.

Did a bit of welding to celebrate! Been a while but began to get my eye in again

And the new bender is an adaptation/addition to this...

Slightly over 90°, but that’s easy enough to manage.

Love your fabrication bend machine. Love this whole thread. It is so inspiring reading it all.

If I wasn’t trying to save money I’d have bought one. Just discovered Metz Tools has very reasonably priced ones (while shelling out for a shrinker/stretcher).

But thanks for the compliment!

And the shrinker/stretcher has arrived, and as I’ve no space in the lockup for a bench and vice to hold it …
