It’s handy isn’t it? Compared to living in Caithness I’m now in awe of what city life has to offer.

I'm in a pretty wee city, 15 mins walk to the edge with hills and countryside, 25 mins walk to city centre, good connections to two real cities as most people would understand them, and heartily glad I don't live in either of them. More pros than cons in this city for me but I know what you're saying having lived in my share of big cities...

Had a quick spin around the block. Brakes good, suspension good. Working on 3 cylinders, we think. #1 lead doesn’t click down on the spark plug like the others. No 1st or 2nd gear either. Re-wired the early binnacle into late van, works fine, apart from speedo. Need to check connection. Gear linkage first though.
Image

Gear selector spline, I think I have to rotate the linkage clockwise, facing the front one spline.

Still faffing with gears, got all forward gears...but no reverse. Doesn’t seem
to be anywhere to adjust the linkage to select. Help?

I tested these cold with 5 nur nur nurs :)

1 bar is 14.5 psi

8 bar (116psi) in minimum so not great.

12+ bar ( 175psi) is achievable, my DG is up there

but how did you test?

I test hot or warm, plugs out throttle open and 10 turns of the engine, thats 10 nur nur nurs

When I had white smoke it was a cracked head, failed combustion seals would pressureise the cooling system

pull the inlet manufold off and see if one inlet port is clean ( steam cleaned)

pull plugs too look for a clean one

Drove it round the block and the white smoke has cleared. Maybe condensation from the old exhaust rear silencer. I don’t know it’s history. I’ll leave it for now and monitor it. I’ve no patience for engine stuff again. Would like to sort the gears though. Then bit of metal work in sills and steps. No lights on the binnacle, speedo to get working...might even MOT it one day.

Got all the gears and timing much improved. Pulls alright, had a cheeky wheel spin even! External water leak to fix behind pulley wheel pipe, 2” rubber bit. A good day.

Optimism, "hopefulness and confidence about the future or the success of something."

The inner sills and jacking points are solid (one hole in each sill to solve)
