Re: Sills both sides starts Monday 11th
Well had things to attend to earlier today, but knowing what I know I felt i had better look closer
so off with this area...
the B post is fairly good in itself, you will note the small burn through holes from the gas cutting, well i shall enlarge them a bit more and i need to make a new one to the left of the support piece
so i can weld through them to these areas on the new runner assembly , the items with a cross can only really be got at from the front of the B post ,one of the reasons it had to come off, the area with the straight lines can and is welded on the outside but it should also be puddle welded through ,
the part of the inner sill over the JP is easy enough to do now from above when ive cut a bit more of the rust away.
now the rear wing........................
actually decided it wasnt a good repair
the above is the new arch that was fitted, its been done a strange way ,but.....
dependent on the brief ,this hasnt rotted overnight
not a pretty sight though a common one
going back to when i said it had been fitted a strange way , well they cut too much off the old arch to enable a clean neat connect and in fact hadnt even welded the arch and wing to each other hence
ive not riven it but the next 6-8" at least is only held by sealant
have cut the new steel to add to the main floor and such its 14 + 16g mostly with some 18 for the less stressed areas.

Re: Sills both sides starts Monday 11th
Well hacking and scraping and finding even more crap but there is light..............................through the holes peeling the insulation away
bit like a floating dancefloor really
its just get-at-able the fuel pipem to shift and the two electric bunches,
front has come away nice and cleaned up the clag and sealant so no issues here really
I may make the outriger up first along with the front portion which will be cut open tomoz after water fill stuff and exp tank are out, then de-underseal/sealant it and lastly add the inner sill on top , seems like a nicer way of doing it, we shall see
again this has scraped off nicely so will pose nom issues
and this lip is easy enough , i have the steel cut
but this is an issue as theres not much left to work on or reference to
this is i think 14g or was..... its one of the most important areas of support to the jp and rear arm,
so wwhat and how to do it

Well..
adding, which is always a turning point, lip is from 2mm so matches the oe
first weld proper with the new torch, very happy with it (the torch)its taken a while to find the right one
other bit done
underside
...
it will just get a quick flick with the disc and a run of sealant
next the floor extension is made
then drilled and chamfered
ready for a weld
...
this will get a light run with the disc
...
welded
...
this is now done and after a very light sand will be fine enough
from underside, again just a light clean off and seal
...
a quick trial fit again
...
this is the only bit of the welding here thats seen and is an easy job to neaten and a smear of seam sealer
voila
A happy afternoon

Re: Sills both sides starts Monday 11th
Well its a sunday
so set about sorting the front jp
first cut
ive gone inboard of the jp bracket and back to good steel, also made the inner sill that foes in there ,all 2mm
picks will have to wait.
had a quick look up here after removing the exp tank
will remake the tank mount differently ,not sure how to proceed here as there is a lot of rot along the top of the innerwing, the arch bottom has gone and the front near the step is unhappy with itself................
then i ran out of gas

Re: Sills both sides starts Monday 11th
Well,, decided to do some cutting, its always nice to get the bulk of the crap out the way
pretty much the same as the other side
ditto
but at least the middle bit is worse
floor has been nibbled away a bit more here
this bit at the rear is mainly secured to the C post with sealant (vw)
now to remove some rubbish
this makes life easier as its a simple welding job, always take time and think before cutting as in how am i going to remake this ,all too easy to take too much off the wrong area and make work for yourself
pride and joy
os B post not as bad as some
but wing btm is nasty , so where do you stop ?
gradual cleaning up
..
we have a gap
..
folded a nice new lip for the bottom
...
flat pack parts
and lots of cleaning underneath
...
