I have been bribed by Aidan to attend this year, its an excuse to drop in on Gary and see what he has found on mine (early days for surgery)

We will be there, though it will be sad not to enjoy the company of Pete Pollard, at least we can toast his memory in the most appropriate way,
A large glass of red wine, :P
Really looking forward to it & hope as many as possible can join us for that toast.

Here's a thought:

Why don't we plant a tree for Pete somewhere special on the site?

If the landowner is ok with that, of course.

Well I think that's a lovely idea

I think the tree is a great idea. I'm going to try and be there this year. Missed last year which I wasn't happy about. It even looks like Riches doka might be ready.

You lot have gone and made me cry again, what a lovely thought. That would make him smile and I'm sure he would have a Peteism fitting to say!

Georgia and I are definite, and Andrew will more than likely once he has read through this.

Love you all xxxx

How about replacing the lonely tree which looked all but done last year?

Although as BB pointed out, it's a terrible time of year to plant a tree unless you plant by a river? Maybe on the river bank in the camp site then?

I guess that's a go then. Pete has the distinction of leading where will all surely follow.

We can argue about where to site it at the event (down by the mudhole?)

Things to decide:
Species of tree?
Suitable protection from sheep etc
Some words to put on the plaque.

I can sort out the metalwork etc

The lonely tree died in 2015 Shaun (I did a google search) but that may be a bit sensitive. It was a local landmark and was also awarded something or other.

The tree sounds fantastic. We can provide all the necessary materials to protect the tree from sheep. Would it need protection from cattle and deer as well?

A lovely idea... a strong stout tree like an oak sounds appropriate! Shame Baobabs won't grow here harking back to his childhood African roots...

... however, before we get ahead of ourselves I need to talk to the landowner to see if it's possible. Of course there's other places if not .
And of course summer is not the ideal time to be planting trees.
