Re: Devon lanes & touring weekend
Sorry to mention CB's again but it may be relevant to Devon lanes and those that have issues with them!
At the last SP, Camperjam meet my CB played up on me, intermitent on receiving and sending . . . Aidan recommended 'The CB Shack' at Lymm Tel. 01925 757200. I posted it Tuesday and it was returned today fixed . . £18 + postage and an excellent service

Re: Devon lanes & touring weekend
Looking at the take up looks like there might be a few little uns around so my other part is thinking about coming along with the kids (3 and 6 months) but is concerned its not the right set up as the kids won't want to be laning all day.
What's the advice from previous meets. Other stuff going on too for the less Syncro minded?

the kids always have as much fun as the adults imho. i would say just bring them along and let the weekend roll.

Thanks Neil
Just looked on google maps and looks like there is a swimming pool. Is that for guests of the site? My boy would love that.

Yes, noticed the pool too,
we are expecting a baby mid September and Hilly is liking to keep cool,
shade and hanging out in the pool is what she likes.
Would also be good to park our caravan under a tree..
In case its sunny and hot!

Re: Devon lanes & touring weekend
The swimming pool is in the owners' garden, not part of the campsite. Basically the campsite is just a field with toilet and shower facilities - nothing else. It is not very far from Kentisbeare, but the road has no pavements. (Once you reach the village hall there is a footpath to the village from there.) Probably advise having second vehicle with you if your family does not wish to come out driving.
Have just visited the site today - there will be plenty of shady spots. We should pretty much have the place to ourselves.
Discounted rate of £10 per night with hookup and £8 without.

My Erin (9) is bringing her bike to burn off a bit of energy after the day's driving.
Don't forget hi-viz vests for your kids if they are going to be riding with you and when free-range on the campsite

Is anyone going to this who lives in Cardiff? Looking at getting a tailgate ladder up to Cardiff for tuffhorton (think that's spelt wrong?)

Re: Devon lanes & touring weekend
Just to remind everyone, whilst we like to make our do's more than just a driving event, that is what they centre a round, whether green lanes or black roads. Drinks and snacks, aperitifs, PIMs etc and where possible a communal meal where everybody helps has been increasingly part of our social agenda.. so we'll see what we can get rustled up, but although the intent is there, arriving anywhere specific to the nearest minute is not in the plan, but +- half and hour usually suffices.
There's a Shell filling station on the Cullompton side of Junction 28, and a few hundred yards away a big Tesco store, with fuel as well, a village shop in Kentisbeare and we make good use of the local pub there too (Thursday night they have a special, 2 steak meals and glass of wine (or Orange juice) for £20, with any style of potato + small salad, usually sirloin or rump choice - recommended). We like to drop in there at least one night...
But do try to arrive with some fuel on-board, and some contributions to the communal eats & drinks, whatevers your thing e.g. we shall be bringing a very good supply of new or 2nd early potatoes, broad beans, maybe some rasps, maybe can even dig out some of Jenny's lovely low-sugar jams - of Devon Lanes breakfast fame over many years!
See what you specialise in, and surprise us...
Driving... we perhaps need to know what your vehicles are (e.g. Doka shiny, Camper scratchy etc) and whether you drive it down lanes or not. Also whether you intend to buddy up or use it, if so, number of suitable belted seats, etc and who on-board.
Friday night for those arriven by then... our normal tour of some 'Doka-only' lanes, which doesn't mean Caravelles and scratchy campers might not get through.
If anyone wants a good depth wade, let us know
We shall have to sort out groups on the day, and we may have to run two routes, scratchy and fluffy, we normally go out Sat and Sunday (you need to tell us beforehand if you need to rush off early, and when, this cannot be done ad hoc in the middle of a lane)
Monday usually is an Exmoor or North Coast touring day, gentler with cream tea options (!), because Sundays can be too busy in the towns and villages
We also need to know that proper tyres are fitted (All Terrains upwards, or tell us otherwise), ideally a CB (though not essential), and all bash plates and bars fitted, having had a few surprises at SP this year.

Greg - Caravelle, with just the 3 row original seat with lap belts in back, fluffy shiny please as its my first run out on lanes. May have family in back, if not happy to take others for a ride.

Re: Devon lanes & touring weekend
Also regarding length of tours - I am assuming its ok to do half day then return to camp if need be? Say, a morning on the lanes with the group then take the family down to Lyme Regis for an hour or two in the afternoon before a communal meal in the evening sort of thing. I can keep all the troops happy that way then.

Re: Devon lanes & touring weekend
there is nothing i would like more than to give the van a good outing on some of the trickier lanes, but seeing as this is my first long drive since getting the van running, plus the following saturday i'm on a ferry to france, i think it will be prudent to go mellow for the weekend. I'll also be leaving on the sunday morning.
So IF there is some nice scenic lanes i'll do them, or i'll just catch up on some sleep at the campsite or maybe sit in the pub!
