Exhaust bolts

Iv soaked them in wd40 for awhile but still no success I was wondering if there was anything els to try before I get out the grinder I'm a real newby so any info is valued thanks a bunch guys.

Re: Exhaust bolts
Why are you soaking them in a water dispersant? Use a penetrating oil like Plusgas.

Re: Exhaust bolts
Did mine earlier this summer, snapped a few studs when replacing the silencer gaskets, a good squirt of plusgas and a bit of heat on the shorter snapped ones. Soon came out with a decent pair of mole grips.

He is right of course, we must get this information into common knowledge = WD40 is a VERY poor releasing fluid, in fact, in my experience, it often makes matters worse !
PlusGas on the other hand is ace (accept no substitute http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trkpa ... p=15&_sc=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )
Then use heat, as mentioned above, do not be frightened to get a gas blow torch (about £10 from B&Q etc) on those nuts & studs, get them smokin hot and they will come out.

Re: Exhaust bolts
You need heat from oxyacetylene torch to make the job real easy!

Re: Exhaust bolts
WD40 fine for spraying electrical stuff but useless on rusty bolts as stated above. Plusgas as a minimum.

Re: Exhaust bolts
Replaced all my exhaust studs, both in the manifold and the head with stainless just a few weeks ago. Plus-Gas worked well on some but the really difficult ones I reverted to a trick told to me by my Mitsy trained technician son. He reckons (and I now believe him) that the best freeing agent is brake fluid, keep it wet and let it soak for 24 hours and the job is done! It certainly worked for me.

Re: Exhaust bolts
I've been on it all day now and managed to release 5/6 bolts just using plusgas, ignarence and brute strength. I think I may be beaten on the 6th bolt. it's in between the downpipes to the silencer n/s a real b**ted. Break fluid may be my next call because I'm not going to get a grinder in that space.other than that I'm quite happy with my progress today

Re: Exhaust bolts
Keep on keeping on ! Try tapping them with a hammer and brushing them with diesel can also work.

Re: Exhaust bolts
You can see why I didn't want to put mine back on after That was the point I came up with the bike can as a replacement.

Re: Exhaust bolts
Haha I was a bit hesitant aswell but the new one went straight on like a treat. I'm so glad it's done though and I'm quite proud of myself but I couldn't of done it without all your advise thanks a lot . Covkid ive taken a look at your rustoleum vid and what a great idea. I'm most probably going to paint my van when the weather warms a little bit. I am a painter myself so I shouldn't have a problem i just can't believe how good of a Finnish you can get with a roller. I'll make a little vid when I do it and send it to ya
