Hi all,
I know that there are a number of engineers on here.
I have to write a technical note on a drawing of a plug mould for a plastic housing.
I want the term to describe the 5 degree taper on the edge of the mould to assist with release.
In German it is - Ausformschrägen - Out (of) Form Taper/Angle.
I do not know the English equivalent (I'm only an electronics engineer).
Cheers
Titus whose English is going downhill after 11 years d'Uxass.

I always thought it was just called a taper. If know one else comes up with anything I'll ask my brother tonight who was a pattern maker if there is a more technical term but he usually referred to it as a taper.

Re: Not VW - Engineering Technical Term needed
I would just call it a taper also - as in a Morse taper for bits that are held in a lathe. (in the machine shop I worked in we just said taper anyway)

In engineering, the taper incorporated in a mould or pattern to assist removal of the finished product is usually referred to as the "Draft angle"

Isn't English wonderful! We have the word taper to describe something which turns into 'draft angle'. Glad someone had the correct info.
