Pretty much no chance , glue is better though not great, but maybe try drilling and tapping for a bolt

As above. Pot metal. Some kind of aluminium-zinc alloy. Kinda like Matchbox toys are made from.
Not weldable and almost impossible to solder.

Thanks both, not what I was hoping to hear, but to be honest kind of what I expected.
The one in the photo was got to experiment with, so when I get around to fixing the new mirror I will see what I can do with it (not expecting much).

I have some stuff called techno-weld, which is supposed to join aluminium with just a blowlamp, somewhere between soldering and welding, part heat part chemical reaction (haven’t used it yet, may work, but probable not).
If I do find an effective means of fixing to it, I will and post up my efforts.

It will just melt with a blowlamp - been there and done that with that excuse for metal. I have tried it with pencil gas torches. It is akin to butter!

According to the info Zamak came first in the US, the licensed version was called Mazak and was uk manufactured, I expect uk folks call it mazak and us zamak, like alooominum and aluminium
