1981 T25 2 Litre Devon Moonraker (Heater Controls)

Post by hawke1 »

Hi,
My van has the three lever control panel on the dash.
Could someone kindly explain the positioning and functions of the three levers?

TONYT25T25,

Thanks for prompt reply.
It doesn't appear to  answer the question re. the three lever version?

Hello,

Aaah....air cooled heaters....

OK, so the really important one is the middle. This pulls and pushes the stiff wires from the dash to the front end of the heat echangers.
Make sure that the wires and swivelly things are all working. Make sure the flexy hoses are in place. You can do this with a torch from the side. The lever will be a bit stiff, but no need to force. All the way to the left is off, to the right is on.

There is no electric fan in the dash, as the turbine on the front of the alternator moves the air. The system must be complete and air tight...including the rubber bellows from the fan to the intake in the bodywork ( ensures clean air is drawn from outside the engine bay).

The top lever controls where the air goes: all the way to the right is windscreen, all the way to the left is cabin.
The bottom lever mixes hot air with fresh air from outside. To the right is no ventilation, to the left is full.

So to de mist  the screen it is all levers to the right.
The airflow should be good, but can be blocked by the heater pipe that goes over the fuel tank degrading and collapsing with age.

A useful boost can be made with an electric bilge air ventilator, same diameter hose spigots at the VW.

This video shows the heat exchangers and tubes..

I have a CT, and with the system set up properly, have no problems, it is snowing here as I write... 8)

But the electric car seat warmer from Lidl is just great... :rofl :rofl

Cordialement,
:ok

sarran1955,
Thanks for that.

I think that just about answers all I need to know.
Just one thing - If any of the levers are placed in the central position, do they have any addtional functions?
